To enhance the shopping experience by adapting to the rapidly growing volume of e-commerce and the challenges of the Covid-19 pandemic, Citadele Bank is introducing an Android-based POS terminal that will combine a number of features to make payments, scan Covid-19 certificates and in future device will also work as a cash register system.
The new type of POS terminal is based on the Android system, which will allow entrepreneurs not only to process payments but also to use smartphone-specific applications – all in one device. For example, by using the camera function, it will be possible to use device verify Covid-19 certificate and it is also planned that in the near future the functionality will be supplemented with the integration of cash register system.
“Unlike traditional POS terminals, this device is equipped with the functionality of a smartphone and a large, handy screen, which allows the system to be used for other practical purposes that are relevant to merchants today. It is very important to us that our customers have the most convenient tools for their business needs, because even the slightest delay in accepting payments can lead to the loss of customers. This new POS terminal has great potential to become an all-in-one tool and the first additional functionality we want to develop is an integrated cash register system, so we are open for cooperation with cash register system developers,” says Andris Lazdiņš, Head of Citadele Payment Cards and Payment Operations.
The solution was developed by Lithuanian payment system developer Ashburn International and Citadele is the first bank to certify the use of the solution in the Baltics. The solution is currently being piloted by several merchants in Latvia and in Lithuania, for example the popular restaurant chain Domino's pizza.
“Functionality and user experience are the main focus for new generation POS terminals. It allows merchants to combine payment solutions with other applications required for their business. Such as applications to run HoReCa business, delivery services, banking applications or others. Keeping that all in one single device helps our customers to be faster, more efficient and convenient to their clients”, says Dainius Einoris, Head of TSP department at ASHBURN International.
The POS terminal works with both a SIM card via a mobile network and a Wifi connection. This means that terminals can be used both on-site and, on the go, depending on the needs of the entrepreneur. The new type of POS terminal will complement the existing range of Citadele payment acceptance terminals and will be available to customers from January 2022.
