SEPA: new format for international payments in euros takes effect on 7 December

Published on

Dear Clients,

Citadele bank will launch a new format for making international payments in euros effective 7 December 2015. The new format meets SEPA requirements which will also be applied to local payments in euros within the SEPA area as from 2016.

We would like to note that the new format will only be used for international payments in euros to EU countries, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland, if the beneficiary’s account is in an IBAN format, and the beneficiary’s bank code BIC and payment charges SHA have been specified. The format for making international payments in a foreign currency will remain unchanged.

In order to properly prepare for the upcoming changes, we will upgrade the bank service systems, thus you may experience temporary disruption of service:

  • Citadele internet bank or bank branches will not accept or perform any international payments to other banks between 4 December 2015, 4:30 pm, and 5 December 2015, 6:00 pm.
  • Temporary disruption in the payment card system may occur in points of sale, e. stores and ATMs, and Citadele internet bank will not be available between 5 December 2015, 6:00 am and 9:00 am.

Clients do not need to take any additional actions to prepare for the transition to the new format for making international payments in euros. International payments in euros in the new format will be available as from 5 December 2015, 6:00 pm via Citadele online banking, and from 7 December, 8:00 am in the bank branches. The use of the new format will not have any impact on the acceptance and processing terms of international payments.
